The University of Melbourne ranks 10th in the world and 1st in Australia for sustainability, reflecting its commitment through research, innovation, and action.

Bluegum was honoured to receive the Highly Commended Award at the University of Melbourne Sustainability Awards for Business and Partnerships.

Lead by Re-Fleece (recycled fabrics), plastic packaging reduction and the introduction of recycled fill in plush toys Bluegum was a notable winner from thousands of vendors currently working with The University of Melbourne.

Re-Fleece is a technically advanced sustainable Super Fleece Fabric developed by Bluegum in 2022.  The upcycled fabric is 330 grams in weight – super soft at the touch and is made from 50% recycled polyester and 50% cotton.

Every Bluegum hoodie made from Re-Fleece contains 30 recycled plastic bottles. In 2026 Bluegum anticipates saving 1.2 million plastic bottles from going to landfill.

Bluegum’s Plush Toy Program sets the gold standard for sustainable manufacturing. All plush toys are now filled with recycled fibre.

With annual production of over 50,000 items, the amount of fibre fill upcycled equates to a total volume 225m3 (cubic metres).

Total weight of 2,250kgs and will fill 3 semi trailers.

Bluegums apparel recovery program has been in operation since 2024. Partnering with Upparrel – Bluegum offers a – close the loop to textile waste solution.

Unused garments are sorted and graded to identify a suitable recovery channel such as reuse, repurpose, or recycle. The most common outcome of recycling is to turn textiles into a revolutionary material, UPtex.
